Christmas Light Installation Services in Louisville

Christmas Light Installation Services in Louisville

Holiday Expressions is a full service Christmas light installation company in Louisville, Kentucky. One team designs your display, installs it with commercial grade LED lights, fixes anything that goes dark during the season, takes it all down in January, and stores the lights until next year. We're a division of Hancock Landscape, which Todd and Jackie Hancock co-founded in Louisville in 1996, and we light the Louisville Zoo for Boo at the Zoo. This guide walks through what each part of the service looks like and why having one team handle the whole season beats piecing it together yourself.

🎄One Team for the Whole Season

Most people picture Christmas light installation as a single day. A truck shows up, the lights go up, everybody waves goodbye. That's the visible part. But a season has more pieces than that, and every one of them gets handled by somebody. The only real question is whether that somebody is one team or three different people who've never met.

Think about the other way for a second. A designer sketches something, hands it to an installer who never saw the sketch, and when a strand quits in the middle of December you're calling a third number you found online. Nobody owns the result. When something goes wrong, everybody points at someone else. And you, who just wanted a house that looks nice, end up as the project manager.

With us, the company that designs your display is the one that hangs it, looks after it, takes it down, and puts it away. If something looks off, we know why, because we made the call in the first place. That sounds small. It isn't. It's what separates a service from a pile of tasks you have to coordinate.

One team. The whole season.

The history backs that up. Holiday Expressions is a division of Hancock Landscape, which Todd and Jackie Hancock co-founded in Louisville in 1996. That's thirty years of showing up at people's properties and being expected to come back. A company doesn't last that long by disappearing in December.

And then there's the Louisville Zoo. We light it for Boo at the Zoo, which is a big public job with a lot of eyes on it, a date that doesn't move, and zero tolerance for dark sections. If a crew can handle that, a two story house in the Highlands is a good day. You can see everything we offer on our services page.

🎨Custom Design

Design comes first, and it's the part people skip when they go it alone. You buy some lights, wrap whatever's easy to reach, and the house ends up looking like it got dressed in the dark. Real design means deciding what deserves the attention. The roofline? That big maple out front? The entry? Where does the eye land when somebody drives past at night?

At the walkthrough we look at your actual property, not a stock photo of somebody else's. Every house has a couple of features worth lighting and a couple worth leaving alone. Color matters too. Warm white looks one way on brick and a completely different way on gray siding. Some people want classic and quiet. Some want color everywhere. Neither is wrong, but it should be a decision you made, not whatever happened to be on the shelf.

We wrote a whole piece on how we think about this, and it's worth a read if you're curious about zones, focal points, and what makes a Louisville house look good after dark: Christmas lighting design in Louisville. And since the plan drives the price, our cost guide shows what moves a quote up or down.

🪜Professional Installation

Installation is the part everybody pictures. Ladders, clips, extension cords, a crew working the roofline while the neighbors slow down to watch. We use commercial grade LED lights, which hold up a lot better than the boxed sets from the hardware store, and the crew uses hardware made for whatever surface it's going on. Gutters, shingles, trim, trees, they're all different, and the wrong clip on the wrong surface causes problems you don't see until later.

Honestly, a lot of DIY lights quit before New Year's. Cheap strands fail, bulbs go out in the middle of a string, and then you're up on the roof in the cold trying to find the one that broke. Ladders and rooflines aren't a great place for a weekend hobby, and plenty of people figure that out after the first trip up. If you're torn, we laid out the tradeoffs in professional versus DIY Christmas lights in Louisville, pretty honestly.

For the full breakdown of what a crew does on install day, our guide to professional Christmas light hanging service goes through it piece by piece. Homeowners should also look at residential Christmas light installation in Louisville.

Not every job is a house, either. We handle commercial properties and HOA communities, and a lit storefront does more for a business than most owners expect. We covered that in Christmas lighting and foot traffic.

🔧Maintenance All Season

This is the part that separates one company from another. Lights go dark. Wind, a squirrel with opinions, a bad plug, a section that just gives up. It happens to everyone eventually, and what matters is what happens next.

With us, you call. You get a direct contact number and a 48 hour response window, and busy season doesn't change that. We come out and fix it. You don't dig through paperwork to figure out who to contact, and you don't climb anything yourself. Maintenance is part of the service, not an upsell you find out about in December.

Direct line, 48 hour response window, all season long: 502-417-8700

It's the least glamorous piece of the whole job and probably the one you'll appreciate most, since you only notice it when something breaks. A display that goes dark on December 8 and stays that way until after Christmas isn't really a display. It's an expensive reminder.

📦Takedown and Storage

Then January shows up. The holidays are over, you're tired, and the last thing you want is a weekend spent untangling strands in the cold. We come back, take everything down, and the lights go into storage until next season. No boxes in the attic. No snarl of cords in the garage. No wondering where that one extension cord went.

Storage is easy to overlook until you've done it yourself. Lights need space and they need care, and a box shoved in a corner tends to come out next November as a knot. Ours are kept for you, and next season you're already part of the process.

People sometimes ask about permanent lights instead, so they never have to think about this again. Maybe that makes sense for your house. We break down the tradeoffs in permanent versus seasonal Christmas lights, and it's worth reading before you decide either way.

Frequently Asked Questions 🎄

What does full service Christmas light installation include?

Design, installation, maintenance during the season, takedown in January, and storage until next year. One team handles all of it, so you aren't coordinating separate vendors. Our services page lists everything in one place.

What happens if my lights stop working?

Call us. Maintenance is part of the service, and you get a direct contact number with a 48 hour response window. We come out and fix it so the display stays lit all season.

Where do my lights go after takedown?

Into storage. We take the display down in January and keep the lights until next season, so you don't have to find room for them or untangle anything. Compare that with permanent lights if you're weighing your options.

Do you install for businesses and HOAs, or only homes?

Both. We install for homeowners, neighborhoods, and commercial properties. Start with our guide to HOA Christmas light installation if you sit on a board, or commercial Christmas light installation if you run a business.

How do I get started?

Fill out the form on our estimate page or call 502-417-8700. Give us your address and a rough idea of what you want lit, and we'll set up the walkthrough from there. You don't need a plan. That's what the visit is for.

Ready to Hand Off the Whole Season?
